It comes as no surprise that our planet earth is heading towards another mass extinction. Multiple research projects have found that the animal population is decreasing at an alarming rate, all due to human activities like hunting, deforestation and technological advances at the cost of animal life. There are hundreds of animals that now stand on the list of endangered species. However, nothing can compare to the lives and species that have already been lost and have gone extinct. 

 

Below are some of the most fascinating facts about various such animals that do not exist anymore.

 

  • Woolly mammoths, who lived on the earth during the last Ice Age, were massive creatures similar to elephants with their giant tusks and long trunks but also sporting hair.

 

  • The largest land animal to ever exist and walk the earth was the Dreadnoughtus, a dinosaur that lives around 77 million years ago.

 

  • Scientific research shows that Velociraptors were covered in feathers.

 

  • The last dusky seaside sparrow to ever exist died on Discovery Island, which is an island owned by Disney.

 

  • The Tecopa pupfish had the ability to live in water temperatures of more than 100 degrees Fahrenheit.

 

  • Some woolly mammoths have been found to be trapped inside the ice, in an attempt to preserve their bodies.

 

  • The most well-known dinosaur, the Tyrannosaurus rex had a lifespan of only around 28 years. 

 

  • Scientists have briefly considered bringing the dodo back from extinction.
