The origin of the Mughals

Mughal empire or mogul empire was a Muslim empire that ruled most of the South Asia. The Mughals ruled Indian Sub continent from 16th to mid 18th Century. They were of Turkic- Mongol origin. The Mughals empire was founded by Babur in 1526. Babur came to then Hindustan from Central Asia. He belonged to Barlas Tribe which was of Mongol origin but embraced Persian and Turkic culture and religion. His father was the King of Fergana near Samarkand.

Later he descended the throne of Fergana after the death of his father.

Babur traced his roots to both Turks and Mongols. He was a direct descendant of Timur from his father's side.While he was an descendant of Mongol ruler Genghis Khan from his mother. Babur tried to conquer Samarkand but suffered defeat thrice. After his failed attempts he moved towards South East Asia. He captured Kabul in 1504. And ruled Kabul for a decade. After that he moved to conquer Hindustan(present day India,Pakistan). At that the Delhi Sultanate was ruled by Ibrahim Lodhi. Babur crossed the Kyber Paas and captured Lahore and entered Punjab. Babur fought Ibrahim Lodhi on Panipat.The Battle between Babur and Ibrahim Lodhi is known as Battle of Panipat. On 21 April 1526 Babur defeated Ibrahim Lodhi and reigned the throne of North India. Babur also defeated Rana Sanga a Rajupt ruler in the Battle fo Kanwa. Babur was followed by his son Humayun. The Mughal empires saw many emperor's from Sher Shah Shuri, Akbar, Shah Kahan, Jahangir to Aurangzeb. Bahadur Shah Jafar was the last ruler of Mughal empire. The mughal empire began to decline after the death of Aurangzeb as Mughals lost most of their territory. The glorious period of Mughal Empire which began from 1526 ended collapsed in 1857.
